What we've been doing in class
Manchester Airport
As part of our work on the history of flight, we went to Manchester Runway Visitor Centre! We watched the planes taking off and landing. Then we went inside a DC10 and sat in the captains seat in the flight deck. We even saw Concorde!
DT
We have been learning how to sew a running stitch. We then designed our own pouches and made them using different colours of felt. We were very proud of our creations!
Drumming!!
We loved our drumming workshop. It was a little bit tricky moving and drumming at the same time but it was so much fun!
Red Nose Day
We had lots of fun on Red Nose Day. Harriet even managed to find a golden nose!
World Book Day!
Another wonderful World Book Day. Just look at our amazing costumes!
English - A visit from Steve Smallman
We were very excited to welcome a real life author into school! Steve Smallman read some of his books to us and then explained how he created different characters. It was interesting to find out how a character goes from an initial thought and is developed until it is ready for a story. Sometimes his characters can stay in his sketch books for years before the right story comes along! We then created some characters together and Steve draw us our very own illustration.
It's Christmas!!!
We loved rehearsing and performing our Christmas Play. We had lots of amazing songs and dances, not to mention all the lines we learnt. Look at our brilliant costumes.
D.T. - Designing a Chair for Baby Bear
This half term we have been investigating structures in our DT lessons. We looked at the strength and stability of different shapes before designing and making a chair for Baby Bear. We had great fun making our chairs and enjoyed testing them out too!
Greek Day
We had lots of fun dressing up in blue and white and learning all about Greece! First we learnt some Greek phrases and how to count, then we used the Greek alphabet to make our own name plates. After that we tried some Greek foods and found out we quite liked them! In the afternoon we made laurel crowns and did a bit of Greek dancing! It was a very hectic day but we learnt lots and really enjoyed ourselves!
History - Votes for Women!
In History, we have been learning about different significant people who have changed our lives for the better. We have found out about Nelson Mandela, Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole.
Today we learnt about Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragettes, made our own, "Votes For Women" and "Deeds Not Words" posters and went on a march around school!
Computing - Creating Spreadsheets
Today we have been learning about data and how we can use computers to sort and handle it. First we gathered some data by using thermometers to take the temperature around school in different places. Then we worked together to input a data onto spreadsheets on the laptops.
September!
All smiles and ready to go for our new school year!
