Lowry Spring Term

During the Spring term the children have studied L.S Lowry. On Wednesday we were lucky to have a visit from a specialised artist to show us some charcoal and drawing skills. We then used these skills to create Lowry type pictures. We had lots of messy fun and can't wait to decorate our celling with our hanging designs.

During the Autumn term, Year 1 learnt about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We were lucky to have a visit from 'The Hobgoblin Theatre Company'. The children worked with John and created actions for gunpowder, treason and plot. Then the children created freeze frames for London, Bonfire night and Buckingham Palace. All the children had fantastic ideas and facial expressions and really enjoyed the morning. At the end they created a human timeline of Guy Fawkes' life.

In class, we used our creative skills to make a Guy Fawkes bonfire model. The children ripped paper to create flames in red, orange and yellow. Then they scrunched paper to make the bonfire and added the flames. Finally we attached Guy Fawkes in the middle.

Wow! What an amazing start to Year 1!! ALL the children have settled in really well and made the transition from Reception to KS1. This term, in English we have looked at the story of 'Cody the cautious caterpillar'. The children have described the characters, sequenced the story and made their own puppets. In these pictures, the children are acting out the story. Once the children had got organised they were really good at remembering what each character said and did. They enjoyed performing their story to the rest of the class.
