What we've been doing in class

Mrs Owen!

We are extremely lucky to have Mrs Owen teaching us RE this term. She has been teaching us all about the Ascension and Pentecost and this week we made Pentecost windmills covered with symbols representing the story. We think they look great on our Sacred Space shelf!

Mayan Madness!

We finished our Mayan topic by decorating 'Day of the Dead' skulls with Mayan patterns.

Take a look at our fantastic artwork!!

We've had a fantastic three and a half weeks back in school and the children have been awesome at getting back into the swing of 'normal' school life since lockdown. I have to say their attitude during lockdown was brilliant, producing work of a high standard under difficult circumstances and I've told them all how proud they should all be!! Looking back, here's a video of some of their lockdown work that we put on display.

Y6 Lockdown learning

Take a look at what we managed to produce whilst at home in Y6.

We are currently working hard on our Britain At War topic- researching and writing letters from the trenches in the mornings and putting our artistic talent to good use in the afternoons. You can see some examples of our work below and you'll be able to see why we're so proud of our fantastic topic books!

We used our knowledge of how light travels, learnt in Science, to solve the problem of how soldiers in WW1 could look over the top of the trenches without getting shot. We then used our D and T skills to make camouflaged periscopes and you can see some of the children testing them out here . . .

We have been getting our teeth into The Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll! After deciphering the 'nonsense' words and making sense of each verse, we are now creating our own atmospheric short story- watch this space!

Here come the Jabberwockies . . . 'Beware the jaws that bite, the claws that catch!'

In Music, Mr Johnson taught us a 1940s dance based on the music of Glen Miller. Watch the video below and you'll see why we can't wait for the next Dance Festival!

In our first assembly of the year, Mrs Owen challenged us to design 'Peace Mandalas'. There's a selection pictured below and we think she will be very pleased by our efforts.
