Monkey Puzzle

Monkey Puzzle

by Julia Donaldson

This half term as part of our topic 'Around the World and Animals', we have been learning about animals that live in the jungle. One of our core stories we enjoyed listening to was 'Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed discussing as a class the different jungle animals within the story and what they looked like. We soon discovered that our favourite jungle animal was the slithering snake! We were then introduced to the word ‘habitat’ and learnt that this is an animal’s natural home or environment where they need to be in order to grow and survive. We learnt that the habitat for jungle animals is the rainforest where the weather is hot and humid.

We then put our new knowledge learnt into action as we wrote some fantastic jungle animal riddles. We were all so proud of the writing we produced and had lots of fun in class solving each others riddles. Can you guess which jungle animal we have written about in our riddles below?

After this, we then painted our favourite jungle animal. We painted lions, snakes, elephants, cheetahs and monkeys to name a few! We were very proud of the amazing artwork we produced.
