Handa's Noisy Night

By Eileen Browne

This half term as part of our topic ‘Around the World and Animals’, we have been learning all about life in Africa! One of our core stories we enjoyed listening to was ‘Handa’s Noisy Night’ by Eileen Browne which was set in Kenya. We learnt that Africa is one of our seven continents of the world and Kenya is a country within Africa. We learnt from the story that people in Kenya live in mud huts, have no electricity and have to travel very far to get water. It made us feel very lucky that we live in houses made of brick with a television!

To further enhance our understanding about life in Africa, we completed lots of learning jobs based around Africa in the classroom. We made African necklaces, wrote postcards, made African patterns with chalk outside, made small world villages, wrote about life in Africa, made African animal masks, listened to and made African music and even identified Africa on a world map!
