What We've been doing in class.
DUCKS
Nursery have really enjoyed learning about life cycles and have been so lucky to watch five little ducklings hatch. The eggs kept warm in an incubator and then the ducklings stayed in a large cage. Every day we helped our teachers clean the cage and gave them fresh food and water. We all held them and enjoyed watching them grow bigger by each day. They are now going back to the farm to be with their Mummy and Daddy.
DRUHM
Today Ian from Druhm visited. We each had a tub with a space - hopper turned upside down in it and a pair of drum sticks. Ian played some music and we followed his rhythm and sequence of beats. Ian wants us to create our own beat and rhythm in everyday life to help us connect with people. He wants to help us break down barriers and give us confidence to tackle life, whether it be in the classroom or in our workplace when we are older. He wants to help us ‘FIND OUR BEAT’.It was such good fun!
Pancakes
Today we celebrated 'Pancake Day'. We made pancake batter and each 'tossed/flipped' a pancake'. We thought this was very funny, especially when Mrs Platt's fell on the floor. We then chose what topping we would like on the pancake before we ate it. They were delicious. Most of us ended us with chocolate around our mouths. In mathematics we completed a pictogram graph to see which was our favourite topping. We noticed that the lemon and sugar was the least favourite with only three children choosing it. We also read the books 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes'.
CHINESE NEW YEAR
In Nursery we have been learning about Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the snake and we were born in either the year of the rat or the ox. We read The Great Race about twelve animals racing in the river. Rat cheated and even pushed the cat off the ox. We learnt that red is a lucky colour and made red and gold lanterns. We also made a money wallet with a gold chocolate coin because children are given these as presents. We wrote Chinese numbers and some animal names and painted a Chinese flag. We also danced to loud music, 'A dragon dance' using some Chinese instruments and went outside to throw fun snaps which made a loud banging noise. We then performed a special assembly for our Mums and Dads. What a fun two weeks. Gung Hay Fat Choy!
Look at us eating noodles with chopsticks!
CHRISTMAS
During R.E. we learnt that Mary and Joseph travelled on a donkey to Bethlehem. Baby Jesus was born there in a stable. Shepherds and The Three Kings came to visit him. Christmas Day is Jesus' birthday. We performed a very special Christmas Nativity for our families, telling the story and singing lots of Christmas songs. We all dressed up in special angel costumes.
We have had a wonderful time in Nursery leading up to Christmas with lots and lots of fun activities. Here are just a few of them. We made Snowman Christmas cards, we went to the post office to post letters to Father Christmas, he then came to visit us with a present, we made a Christmas bauble, had Christmas dinner, enjoyed a Christmas party, sang a special carol concert, decorated a Christmas tree with our own baubles, took turns to take the Posada box home, made a funny calendar to sell at the PTA fair, baked a Christmas tree biscuit, went to see '200% Wolf' at the cinema, watched the pantomime 'The National Elf Service' and had a relaxing slumber afternoon with hot chocolate. Phew!!!!! We are so tired now.
Diwali
We have been learning about Diwali, the festival of light. We made rangoli patterns using chalk, had henna mendhi patterns on our hands, played with coloured rice , used scissors to cut along lines to coloured fireworks and made clay glitter diva lamps to take home. We also made mango, coconut sweets which is a traditional treat.
We also learnt about 'Holi', the festival of colour. We went outside and expressed our happiness by throwing coloured powder paint. It was super fun!

Owl Visit
After reading Owl Babies this week, Simon and Taz visited us from Cheshire Falconry with four different owls. They taught us so many facts about what owls eat, about their ears and their different breeds. We loved watching them fly around the room. We could then stroke Walter who is a very big owl.
